The latest news comes from Bloomberg, which reports that Amazon has agreed to purchase a 10 percent stake in Pebble, the wearable startup founded by Google co-founder Sergey Brin and Pebble co-founders Brendan Iribe and Tony Fadell.
Pebble was founded in 2011 by Fadello, a former Google employee, and Iribe, a software engineer.
In 2013, the company acquired the Pebble Time smartwatch.
Pebble has been a pioneer in the wearable technology field, and it’s one of the only companies that can boast a strong lineup of products, including fitness trackers and wristbands.
The news is just the latest indication that we’re in the midst of a wave of smartwatch innovation, with a number of brands looking to take the technology to the next level.
