A bicycle thief who stole more than $1.5 million in bike parts in South Boston got more than a $1 million in restitution Wednesday from the city of Boston.
Police said a bike shop owner, Daniel Giunta, was arrested last week after they said he stole several thousand bicycle parts from a bike factory in the city’s Kendall Square neighborhood.
Giunta was caught by police Monday afternoon and is being held without bail.
He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
Police Chief Michael McCarthy said Giunta is in custody on a charge of theft over $1 and a charge for theft by deception.
Police identified him as Daniel Giampiero.
They said he also had been arrested in Boston on theft by deceit charges and a similar charge in October.
