Walmart is dropping its bike game that encouraged women to ride around town by riding a bicycle with a pink bike handlebar, according to an online petition.
The game was removed from its website in December.
The company said it removed the game because the players are not representative of the community they were trying to promote.
“The goal of the game was to encourage women to explore their passions by riding around town on their bicycles,” the company said in a statement.
“We regret that the game did not meet that goal.”
The game allowed players to ride in a group with other players, walk to stores, buy groceries, take shopping trips and take selfies.
It was available on Amazon.com, in Walmart’s mobile app and at participating locations.
Walmart said the game is not affiliated with Walmart or its employees.
The website says that the company removed the games because the game could potentially be harmful to children and teenagers.
“In light of this information, we have removed the Walmart Bikegame app from the Walmart app store and will not be releasing it in the future,” the statement said.
Walmart also said the store has a program called ‘Ride Your Bike’ that encourages women to participate in group rides.
“For years, Walmart has been dedicated to bringing more opportunities for women to take their bikes to the store, but we cannot change our core values of equality and inclusion,” the store said in the statement.
The petition on Change.org asks Walmart to remove the game from its app and stop supporting it.
Walmart declined to comment on the petition.
